Raw material purchases may be paid before finished goods are sold and customers settle invoices. Review inventory ageing, customer terms and supplier payment dates together rather than as isolated ratios.
Costing and margins
Compare actual material usage, labour and overhead recovery against planned product costs. An average gross margin may hide unprofitable product lines or under-utilised capacity.
Capital expenditure
Assess machine purchases against cash needs, realistic production utilisation, maintenance and financing repayments. A profitable investment on paper can still create a near-term cash shortage.
Monthly CFO discussion
An owner should see sales and margin by product group, debtor ageing, stock movement, forecast cash headroom and decisions requiring management approval.
Is outsourced CFO support appropriate?
If the management team cannot see cash commitments, forecast headroom or profitability drivers in time to decide, scoped CFO support may be useful. Existing accountants and operations leads remain central to producing dependable inputs.
